2009 is the year to get creative
2008 ended in a mess up here in Iceland and that mess will continue until 2011 (if not even longer). During the financial system collapse (and there's an even bigger collapse coming as a result of IMF lending), the Creative Force of True Arts was sudued by the Creative Force of Illusionary Value. The human spirit became engrossed in the material pursuit of happiness and used up loads of energy building a tower on sand. During this period, only a handful of true artists have emerged as evidenced by the comeback of the elderly - Police, Duran Duran, and others. Abba makes a reappearance. Great! Another Abba revival (and now targeted to young kids so we'll never see the end of this).
2009 marks the return of the true Creative Force, the one that rests in all but assumes one form or another. The music scene will change and the canned song we've been listening to for a decade (under different name and artist yet totally devoid of life) is history. The financial crash has opened our eyes that we've been chasing a mirage and that there's time to turn our attention to worthier causes. This the conviction of our artists and as a result, their music is changing.
